In August, PTO sent a packet to each family that included an issue or our newsletter, The Roar Download Roar8-21-08.pdf, a volunteer bookletDownload pto_volunteer_booklet_2008.pdf, and the PTO Calendar. If you didn't get yours or you've misplaced it, you can view a printable PDF by clicking on the links above. Extra calendars are available in either school office.
Our Back to School event will be in conjunction with Good Old Days this year and will take the form of Get Movin' Games. Relay games, obstacle courses, scavenger hunt, hula hoops, math games and more will be available on the Primary School Parking Lot from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 7th. Each family that registers at the information table can play all the games for free and earn a treat when they are finished. Information and treats will be available for parents also. We will have water, lemonade and popcorn available at no charge for participating families. In case of a light rain, look for us in the Primary Gym. If there are severe weather conditions, the event will be cancelled.
Our next PTO meeting is Monday evening, September 8 from 7 to 9 pm in the Central School Library. All are welcome to attend. We will be going over the proposed budgetDownload proposed_0809_budgetandhistory.pdf, upcoming fundraisers and setting dates for Family Fun and other events. Your input is needed.
We are trying some new approaches to fundraising this year. Our Sally Foster Catalog Wrapping Paper sale is going online this year. You can access the sale by clicking here: Sally Foster Sale . If your shopping cart does not say"You are shopping for Winfield Schools" then you will need to select Winfield Schools by entering the code 0058521. You can order any time before December 31, 2008 and Winfield Schools will get 50% of your purchase price. Shipping is free on orders over $70. An added bonus of shopping online is access to the clearance center where you can get some terrific bargains on greeting cards and ribbons. If you don't need $70 worth of wrapping paper and gifts, why not team up with a neighbor or friend?
Our Fall Book Fair, Scholastic Book Fair Safari, will be open for business on September 11 and 12. This is a great way to get some good reading materials for you and your children while helping the library and classrooms expand their collections. If you want to volunteer to work during the book fair, contact Rita Grady at 630-653-8336.
Silver Graphics is a new fundraiser where your child creates art that can be reproduced on a variety of items suitable for gift-giving or keepsakes. One of our biggest money-makers the past few years has been our Chili Fest. Health Department regulations make it difficult to run the Chili Contest and stay in compliance with food safety regulations. If you've heard rumors that we won't have Chili Fest this year, you have correct information. However, we will have a a big winter event including many of activities people have said they enjoyed at Chili Fest. There will be a Fun Fair with a Cake Walk and Karoake. We will have raffle baskets. We will have a dinner. We are thinking of calling the event Winter Escape to______. We haven't filled in the blank yet but would be interested in hearing your ideas. The event will be January 31st. If you have suggestions for the theme or the type of food you would like to see contact Deanna Mustafa at 630-260-5977 or Mary Schramer 630-784-0058.
